The Halls saleroom team are always on hand to help, whether you are collecting in person or require advice about local couriers. Collection or shipping arrangements can be made from midday on the next working day after the auction.
How to pay
- Online — log in to your account, go to ‘invoices and payments’ and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Direct bank transfer — to Halls Holdings Ltd; bank details are shown on your invoice. International buyers should let us know from which country and bank payment will be made.
- Debit cards up to £1,000 by telephone.
We regret that we do not accept payment by credit card, nor phone card payments from buyers outside the UK.

Collecting your lots
- Pay in full — please ensure you have paid your invoice in full prior to collection.
- Book a slot — collections can be made Monday to Friday, 10am–5pm. Please bring a copy of your invoice, or supply one to your carrier.
- Arrive — on arrival, please come to main reception to notify us that you are here, and bring a form of identification.
All lots shall be paid for and removed at the buyer’s risk and expense within four working days of the sale. A storage and handling charge of £5.00 + VAT per lot, per day, will be levied on items that remain uncollected after that period. Halls Holdings Ltd reserve the right to re-sell any items that have been paid for, where appropriate, after a period of fourteen days; the original buyer will be charged storage, full commission and insurance and the net proceeds remitted to them.
Postage & couriers
Halls Fine Art are a small team, so we have neither the staff nor the facilities to provide a comprehensive packing service and will not package items for collection by third parties. We are able to offer a limited in-house postage service within the UK, in conjunction with a specialist nationwide courier, for small, unbreakable items below £2,500 (including buyer’s premium) that fit in a jiffy bag and weigh less than 2kg: £30 for invoices of £750 and under, £45 for invoices between £751 and £2,500; over 2kg or over £2,500, price on request. Halls cannot ship items internationally.
For all other deliveries we are happy to suggest a number of local carriers who can arrange packing and shipping for you — please contact them directly for a quote. If you are interested in a large or heavy item, we advise looking at shipping arrangements before you buy. Please note that bladed articles cannot be sent by post to a UK residential address (Offensive Weapons Act 2019).
VAT refunds & buying from outside the UK
We strongly advise clients to seek advice from their shipper about the extra costs of shipping items to and from Europe, including import duty and VAT, for which Halls is not liable. You can obtain a refund of VAT if you buy an object which is shipped outside the UK: you will need proof of export from your courier and a VAT refund form from HMRC.
